Phone System Tips: A Look at the Syspine Soft Phone
Today we're going to introduce you to the soft phone from Syspine for their Microsoft Response Point Telephone System.
For those of you not familiar with the term, simply stated, a softphone is a software version of the phone that runs on your computer, using the microphone and speakers to provide the voice signal and emulating the telephone system on the screen.
The Syspine softphone acts and looks just like the IP 310 VoIP telephone. It is a good option for anyone who works at their computer all day and needs to keep their hands on the keyboard. We suggest adding a USB corded or cordless headset like the Plantronics CS50 for the ultimate calling experience.
This makes the softphone a great value for occasional users like tax preparers during tax season. Rather than buy a phone system that won't be used most of the year, give them a copy of the softphone and save money.
And, the softphone may be used remotely, but keep in mind; just like with the IP 310 phone you will need VPN access to your network to use the soft phone remotely.
Please contact us for more details on the limitations and the setting up a VPN (That's a Virtual Private Network) for your office.
While the underlying Response Point operating system is not being further developed by Microsoft, Syspine continues to add new product to its RP portfolio and extending the life of a great VoIP phone system.
Response Point presents a remarkable solution given its unbeatable price and unparalleled service from Telco Depot.
And as always, call us with any questions or for assistance with this product.
Note: What is VoIP ?
So how is VoIP different from standard phone service? Well, it's significantly cheaper for one. But it also offers features that are either not available or that are high in cost to a landline plan.
Some of these VoIP features include Call Forwarding, Call Return, Call Block and Do Not Disturb. Ever wanted your voicemail to be forwarded to your email box? With VoIP, you can. Pick and choose the messages you want to hear right from your PC.
Are you all about the environment and going green? For those of you who find saving energy just as important as saving money VoIP is a great alternative.
Now because VoIP uses the internet as its platform for service it means that anywhere – I mean anywhere that you can find a stable internet connection you'll also have access to your VoIP service. I will discuss how this works and what you need in a future post.
These are the basic facts about Voice over Internet Protocol or "VoIP". In my next post I'll explain in greater detail the benefits, how it saves on energy as well as the draw backs of VoIP.

Telephone solution for small/home office (soho) using modem on computer?
I'm adding a second line for my home office, and I want to pass it through the computer to do the following:
-record calls (yes I checked it's legal where I live - one-party notification - please check your own area)
-display caller id
-voice mail recording and playback
-calling from email/contacts programs (outlook, kurlo etc)
-softphone interface
-fax functionality
-other advanced functions
Ten years ago my old computer had a 56k modem which had faxing, polling and voice mail.
I don't mind just having a usb handset but would rather plug a real phone in in case the computer is unresponsive.
You're probably asking for 2 things, but here's a link to Virtual PBX software that will integrate into a suite of programs and it may work with your voice modem. The best part is you can test it, and if it works, pay about $200 for the VIrtual PBX and recording software. http://www.nch.com.au/pbx/index.html
For about $300, you can buy a 2 port USB recorder that interfaces between your phone line and a PC to record CID data, outbound dialed digits, and the voice of all calls. That would be a product line this http://www.omnicronelectronics.com/tc/telecorder_p1.htm There's a stand alone and LAN version, but you will go a hundred or hundreds of dollars over the $300 price.
