Optimizing Intel Processors for Asterisk
The Article was not found...
What is Asterisk?
I have a computer 1 GB Ram and 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and other goodies. I just want to have a PBX built into it in the form of a card. So like i can have multiple phones connected to it and have phones ring Do i need asterisk and if so where do i start?
THE ASTERISK WHICH IS AN OPEN BASED SOFTWARE
What you want is either Asterisk or Trixbox
"Asterisk is the most popular and extensible open source telephone system in the world, offering flexibility, functionality and features not available in advanced, high-end (high-cost) proprietary business systems. Asterisk is a complete IP PBX for businesses, and can be downloaded for free."
Of course, it's all command line based, so I prefer Trixbox. After installation, it's all GUI based and very similar to Asterisk. Trixbox is running my business PBX on a P3 933 with 512 RAM with 8 users. The computer you have is way overkill, but it will certainly work.
To connect to the PSTN (public switched telephone network) you'll need an FXO card. The cheap option is the X100P which will cost around $30 and doesn't sound terribly good. The real option is the TDM400, which starts at $200 but is expandable to 4 phone lines. You can add multiple cards if needed.
Since you're looking at multiple phones, you really want the TDM400. There are two types of cards. FXO is the card type that connects to the PSTN. FXS connects to phones.
