Condensation in watch.?
So I have a Casio aviator watch MTP-4500. I took a few showers with it and had no problems with it at all.
Then a few days ago I got out of the shower and there was condensation between the faceplate and the crystal.
I took it to a watchmaker and he dried it out. He said there was some calcium on the clockwork due to strong water, but he said he cleaned it good as new.
I told him I thought I just pushed a button in the shower because I took showers with it before without problems. But he did not elaborate and when I picked it up I forgot to ask them about the seals. When I called them he said he seen so many watches he didn't remember which one was mine, but if it was waterproof before it would still be now, even after opening it.
So I was just wondering if anyone here can tell me how big the chance is that the seals are bad or if I just pushed a button or moved the bezel?
By the way, the watch is only a week or so old. My wife got me it for Christmas.
Chances are your seal has been breached. In the future when you see condesate, take remedial action right away. Go to the local Crafts Store and get some Silica Gel. Place the gel in a can or jar and place the watch into the Gel. Leave it there for several hours, the moisture will be absorbed into the Gel. Every once in a while put your Silica Gel in a slow oven 200 degres or so for about an hour. This will keep the Gel more absorbant.
